How did (or did not) the Louisiana Purchase help to "provide for the common defense"?

Did you know that the Louisiana Purchase roughly doubled the size of the United States? I believe that the Louisiana Purchase did not help to provide for the common defense because the settling and seizing of the Native American’s land only enraged the Indians to the point of attacking the American settlers.

I agree. All and All, the Louisiana Purchase roughly doubled the size of the U.S. With that in mind, why would the Louisana Purchase have anything to do with the common defense?

With the Louisiana Purchase it gave Americans a sense of defense. This is so because now the United States boarder reached from the Atlantic Ocean to Pacific Ocean. So they will not have to worry about attacks from the West side of the United States. But they needed the land because if they did not purchase it Britain could have taken it and have an easier time taking over America. That would also increase trade between Asia and America.

Did you even know how America came to be? 1/3 of America was bought from the French by Tomas Jefferson in the Louisiana Purchase, and one goal from the constitution it reaches “to provide for the common defense” because if the expedition brought back any harmful or fatal plants or animals, people will know not to go near them, and the more land means they can hold a higher population so that means there is more people for the army.

In 1803 the French offered the United States new land for $15,000,000. This was known as the Louisiana Purchase. They used this land for many things, including common defense. With this large amount of land, there was more power over the other countries. Also, with all of the trees there is wood, for building forts, weapons, and ships. The common defense of Americans was positive thanks to the Louisiana Purchase.

The United States purchased the Louisiana territory in the early 1800s for 15 million dollars. Purchasing the Louisiana territory helped the common defense because it got rid of the French. It also helped get more things to trade with so the army could trade for weapons. This also made enemies from the west travel farther through the United States to get to the capital. Purchasing Louisiana helped the common defense.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers provided for the common defense. They did this because they had a strong enough and big enough country because of the Louisiana Purchase since they bout the land they had a much larger country to fight with. Since they bout this land they had enough room to have a bigger army to fight against any foreigners also they had the room to create factories. Because of our fathers we have been able to provide for the common defense.

The Lewis and Clark expedition was a long treacherous trip. It was a long 2 year trip crossing the entire United States. The crew of 50 people, met up with many Indian tribes. The crew made friends with every tribe and also traded with them. This helped the United States because if our country went to wars our Indian friends could help use with battle or economic issues.

Have you ever wondered what the Louisiana Purchase did for us? One thing it did was provide for the common defense. It did this because of two reasons. One reason is that it nearly doubled our population which meant we would have many more soldiers ready to fight. Another reason was that the farther West we expanded, there was less of a Native American threat if we made peace with them or took them over.

“To provide for common defence,” was one of the things listed in the Preamble a law or act could have to be passed. This didn’t apply to the Louisiana Purchase. If it applied in any way, it would be that the land need more defence, since it had doubled the size of the States. People would have to have to be sent over from the eastern side of the country. Unless, the Native Americans offered to defend the Americans, there was no system of defence provided. Therefore the Louisiana Purchase did not help “to provide for the common defence.”

To “provide for the common defense” means that you are able to defend yourself with ease. The Louisiana Purchase did “provide for the common defense” but also did not. It did because when people moved to the new lands and away from their crowded cities, everyone became less anxious without the crowd and had space to live and think. The Louisiana Purchase didn’t “provide for the common defense” because the citizens who moved to new land where further away from the protective forts and where susceptible to Native American attacks. Native American attacks may be more of a threat then before because they were angry with being recently kicked out of their home lands. Also, there weren’t as many citizens in the new lands as the first so there weren’t that many neighbors to help defend you.

Common Defense-the act of defending yourself. One of the reasons Thomas Jefferson bought the Louisiana Purchase is because it helped provide common defense. It helped us provide a common defense by it gave us more land to build forts and make gun shops. This would make our army stronger.

To provide for the common defense is not to defend yourself, but to defend people of your nation.

Did you know that the Louisiana Purchase was one of the most important purchases of America?

The Louisiana Purchase was important to the outcome of the United States. It extended the governments grip on the Pacific Ocean, where treasures unfamiliar to them lied. It not only did this, but it also helped improve many of the six goals of our government. In specific, it helped to provide for the common defense. In that current time, Native Americans lived very close to the American settlers. Many settlers were worried about the natives because some tribes were known for starting wars over tiny errors, the Sioux in specific. Not only this, but many were worried about Great Britain gaining the Oregon Territory to gain entry into the United States. The United States wanted this land for furs, trade, and access to the Pacific Ocean.

A land purchase couldn’t have an effect on the nation’s defense could it? The Louisiana Purchase did just that. It added wide open plains and parts of mountains for Americans to set up military bases. Also if the British wanted to invade America, they would have a much harder time doing so because of the enlarged territory they would have to conquer. For keeping America safe, the Louisiana Purchase was good all around.
